The adaptive re-use of an abandoned piano parts warehouse produced eight owner-occupied residential units for families of low and moderate income. Working closely with a non-profit developer, the City of Somerville, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and HUD, Luna Design Group completely transformed the four disjointed structures on the quarter acre site into eight very attractive condominium units. Recipient of Design Excellence awards from the American Institute of Architects and Builder Magazine, this adaptive re-use project serves as a national model for public and private collaboration, while successfully illustrating that quality designed and constructed housing is available to all income levels.
