The underutilized and outdated two-story 44,000 SF student union building and cafeteria was completely renovated to create the award winning Behrakis Student Center/One-Stop at Northern Essex Community College’s Haverhill Campus.

Consolidating student services scattered throughout the campus, the new One-Stop houses the Learning Accommodations Center, Student Assessment Center, Enrollment Management Offices, Student Processing Center, Bookstore, Student Lounge, Career Planning and Advising Center, conference rooms, and “smart” classrooms/presentation rooms. A successful collaboration with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts’ Division of Capital Asset Management and Northern Essex Community College, this adaptive re-use project was completed at a cost of $3 million and received a Citation of Excellence from Buildings Magazine’s 2007 Project Innovations Awards Program.
